The PE and Sports Premium Funding is provided by the Government to help primary schools improve the provision of physical education and sport offered to pupils.

Funding for Ash Grange is calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between 5 and 11). All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil.  Each academic year the school receives approximately £8,000, which is used to provide some of the following:

In 2016-17, the funding was used to:

  • develop a cross country/football/netball and swimming team to take part in competitive events.
  • develop swimming teaching through coaching, INSET and training.
  • to develop health and fitness of the children during break times through active physical play-purchase of additional equipment
  • develop resources/facilities to widen opportunities for team games.

In 2017-18 the funding will be used to:

  • establish cross country/football/netball and swimming team to take part in competitive events.
  • Provide swimming coaches, that work alongside staff to develop skills.
  • Provide gymnastic coaches, that work alongside staff to develop skills.
  • to continue to develop health and fitness of the children during break times through active physical play-purchase of additional equipment

Impact:

  • Higher rates of attendance at sports clubs in and out of school
  • Improved health and fitness levels of children
  • Improved overall attendance
  • Improved rates of progress in swimming, games and gymnastics.
