The governing body of Ash Grange is a very committed and hard working group of volunteers. We come from all walks of life and backgrounds and represent the parents, staff, and local community. Our main concern is the education, well-being and happiness of the children and we are here to make sure that every child is given the best opportunities and experiences the school can provide.

The three core functions of a governing body are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

The governing body aims to achieve these core functions by working closely with the headteacher to make key decisions in connection with the successful running of the school both now and for the future, including:

  • Strengthening the school leadership by providing support and challenge
  • Ensuring that the level of staffing is appropriate for the needs of the school; overseeing the recruitment, selection and appointment procedures; and ensuring the school complies with appropriate employment law and statutory responsibilities
  • Using the pupil premium and other resources to overcome barriers to learning
  • Ensuring policies are in place
  • Overseeing repair, maintenance and use of school premises
  • Contributing to the school’s self-evaluation and understand its strengths and areas for development
  • Helping the school to set high standards by planning for the school's future and setting targets for school improvement
  • Engaging with key stakeholders and helping the school respond to the needs of parents and the community
