Dear Parents/Carers,

Here we are at the end of another wonderful school year, a time of fantastic learning, experiences and success. The children across the school have achieved so much, making wonderful progress; this Year 6 have achieved the highest levels in the SATs in the school’s history. So much has been achieved by and for the children, they have made us all very proud they are indeed our stars.

I want to take the chance to say some public “thank yous” but first I need to share some sad news regarding Mrs Gray in the office. As some of you may have noticed she has not been in recently. This is because she has been taken ill and needs treatments and an operation.  Her prognosis is good but she has to go through many months of treatments so will be off for the autumn term at least.  I wanted you to be aware now as treatments are beginning and if you were to see her out and about you might have wondered what was wrong. This is all part of being a school family, walking through the tough times as well as the good, as we all do with one another.  She knows how much she is loved and I know that you will all wish her well; she will pop in throughout the months on her “good days”.

Now to the many thanks I want to share with you all. First and foremost I want to thank our wonderful children for all that they are, every day the children shine and make us proud as they overcome difficulties, excel and show kindness to one another. Recent highlights for me have been the Year 6 show, Year 5 Cathedral Performance, Overnight Stay, Sports Day and and and…it is so easy to think of moments.

To you dear parents and carers thank you for how you have supported your children every day to be here, to achieve their potential and to improve.  You work with us to make things better by working with the teachers, doing your bit, sharing ideas, volunteering in class, on trips and at events, supporting PTA events, taking the time to say thank you to our incredible team of staff, supporting and encouraging me to lead the school to be the best it can be. Thank you.

To the small but mighty team of the PTA, thank you for organising Discos, Christmas and Summer Fayres, Tuck Sales, Mother’s and Father’s Day presents — all to raise funds for all the children.  It has been so tough for them with such a small team and I would ask you to consider getting involved next year, all they do benefits every child.  This year their fundraising has meant that we could buy microphones and a music system to ensure everyone can enjoy productions and assemblies.  Now funds are being raised for playground structures to make playtime even more fun, as the children have asked for playhouses, dens and structures.

Thank you to all our wonderful staff who have worked tirelessly for your children this year, they have achieved so much through their dedication and hard work.  We are sadly saying goodbye to Mr Carter who is heading north to be closer to family, Miss Dwyer as she goes back to university, Miss Currie as she starts teacher training and Mrs Newcombe as she goes to Ethiopia to be a missionary.  We thank each one for all they have done for the children and families of Ash Grange.

This is the last paper newsletter as we move to a blog from September, with the website providing all the day to day information.  I wish you all a wonderful summer break, time to relax and enjoy more family time.

Term finishes tomorrow at 1.20pm and the new year begins at 8.45am on Wednesday 6th September, happy summer holiday.

Kindest regards,

Mrs Marie Curtis.
